Helping You Make Wise Financial Decisions

About Jennifer J. Cole, CFA, MBA, CFP®Photo of Jen Cole

I started in the financial services industry in New York City in 1981 and rose through the ranks to become a senior stock analyst with major Wall Street firms, providing proprietary research on industrial companies to leading mutual fund companies, bank trust departments, pension fund managers, and retail stockbrokers.

While the challenges and rewards of that career were exhilarating, they were not conducive to a balanced life. So in 2000, my husband, Bill Maguire, and I moved to New Mexico where I initially pursued my musical interests and a variety of local and national volunteering activities.

I considered only one business model when I started Cole Financial Consulting, LLC in 2009. Individuals should be able to access independent financial advice that is not tied to portfolio management or product sales, especially advice from someone with a solid financial background. Exclusively hourly-rate advice is a rare but valid approach to personal finance and it is the perfect solution for many people.

I am a Chartered Financial Analyst and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. I also hold an
MBA - Finance from New York University, a Certificate in Financial Planning from Boston University, and a BS in Business - Finance and Economics from Colorado State University. I have completed training in The Kinder Method™ of Life Planning, and am New Mexico's first Licensed Insurance Consultant (licensed in life, accident, health, and annuities).

I am the daughter of a career U.S. Army officer and a dedicated homemaker — both natives of Laramie, Wyoming. I was born near the end of the baby boom in the Bavaria region of Germany. We soon headed stateside and lived in Alaska, Colorado, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming. My "Wall Street" career added New York and Missouri to that list of residence states. I currently reside in Sandia Park, New Mexico (which is in the East Mountains near Albuquerque) and spend time each week at our Santa Fe townhome.

My interests include playing jazz flute, learning piano, training our young dog for therapy work, reading non-fiction, attending performing arts, enjoying the countryside, crocheting, and spending time with my husband, friends, and family. And I look forward to teaching personal finance in 2020!

I am a member of The CFA Institute, The CFA Society New Mexico, and The Garrett Planning Network, Inc. I am a member of the UNM Regents' Portfolio Investment Advisory Committee. I have also served as mentor to UNM's CFA Institute Research Challenge team and have guest lectured at the UNM Anderson School of Management (Investment Management Program).
